JOHN DEBERNARDO, CHAIRMAN - APPOINTED 2011
Mr DeBernardo is the Managing Director of Gas Safely Limited, an engineering consultancy service providing technical solutions for the gasfitting and energy sectors across New Zealand. His extensive experience in the plumbing and gasfitting industry includes 33 years previously with his family business Aquaheat Industries in Wellington, where he headed the company’s heating solutions division which operated throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Mr DeBernardo has had a shareholding interest in NZPM since 1964.
Mr DeBernardo is a Director of MasterLink Limited, New Zealand Plumbers Journal Limited, and of Padova Properties Limited, a financial asset investment company.
As a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (Inc.) with over 30 years’ experience as a company director, Mr DeBernardo brings considerable governance and business skills and experience to a number of industry organisations including the Board of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc, and as an Executive member of the Wellington Master Plumbers & Gasfitters Association.
Mr DeBernardo is also a New Zealand representative on the joint Australasian gas installations and gas appliances Standards committees. He is a member of NZPM’s Compliance, Remuneration and Health & Safety Committees.

CRAIG EDMUND MCCORD, DIRECTOR - APPOINTED 2015
Mr McCord is the Managing Director of Tauranga Hardware & Plumbing Ltd, a leading company in the Bay of Plenty region providing plumbing, gas and drainage services. He is a third generation plumber-drain layer and is proud of his career in the plumbing industry. His company has been a shareholder in NZPM since Plumbing World was established in Tauranga during the early 1970s.
Mr McCord is community focused and has supported and served on a number of community boards. He has strong governance experience from a range of previous and current roles including being a trustee on two school boards, serving on the Board of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc, as past president of the BOP Coromandel Master Plumbers and as the owner of Tauranga Hardware & Plumbing Ltd.
Mr McCord is a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (Inc.).
Mr McCord is Chairman of NZPM’s Health and Safety Committee and is also a member of the Membership Committee

Mr Leen is the Managing Director of John Leen Plumbing Limited and JLP Commercial Limited. The companies are Wellington based contracting businesses concentrating on major commercial projects.
Mr Leen is a Certifying Plumber and Drainlayer with over 30 years’ experience as a business owner in the industry.
Mr Leen has undertaken a number of governance roles on commercial and advisory boards including across the plumbing industry including executive member and past President of the Wellington Master Plumbers Association, a director and chair of Master Plumbers Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc., Masterlink Ltd and NZ Plumbers Journal Ltd. He has also been a member of advisory boards for the Plumbers Gasfitters & Drainlayers Board, the Skills Organisation and local polytechnics.
Mr Leen is a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (Inc.).
KATHERINE (KATHY) MEADS, DIRECTOR - APPOINTED 2018
Mrs Meads is a professional company director with extensive experience in governance and management roles.
Mrs Meads is currently a director of Port Taranaki Limited, Shipowners Mutual Protection & Indemnity Association (Luxembourg) and Enable Services Limited, a trustee of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and has several independent advisory roles. Her previous directorships include Snap Limited, Waterfront Industry Superannuation Fund and various Ngai Tahu subsidiary companies.
Mrs Meads has a strong background in commercial and financial management across a broad range of business sectors including telecommunications, property, tourism, seafood, ports and insurance. She has experience in leadership roles and strategic decision-making in uncertain times for long-life assets and has a global business perspective from a continuing governance role and education.
Mrs Meads holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canterbury. She is a Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (Inc.) and a Chartered Accountant of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Mrs Meads is Chair of NZPM’s Audit & Risk Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee.
MARK ROBERT WHITEHEAD, DIRECTOR - APPOINTED 2015
Mr Whitehead owns Whitehead Plumbing and Gas Ltd which is based in Christchurch. They currently employ 25 staff and undertake a wide range of plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying serving the domestic and commercial sectors. He is a Certified Plumber, Gasfitter & Drainlayer and been a shareholder with NZPM for over 30 years.
Mr Whitehead has over 35 years’ experience as a business owner and has a wealth of managerial and governance expertise including currently being a Director of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc, and Chairman of Masterlink. Mr Whitehead is a past director on the PGD Board, Industry Training Organisation, and was National President of New Zealand Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc, and has been involved with several community sports and school groups.
Mr Whitehead is a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (Inc.). He is Chairman of NZPM’s Remuneration Committee and is also a member of the Compliance Committee.
PETER FAUL, DIRECTOR - APPOINTED 2019
Mr Faul is the Managing Director of Advantage 2010 Limited with branches in Christchurch and Queenstown. The business undertakes plumbing, drainage, gas fitting and mechanical services and operates in a broad cross section of the market from large commercial to domestic and maintenance work.
Mr Faul is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years’ experience as a business owner in the industry initially in a family business that was a foundation shareholder in NZPM and then in his own business.
Mr Faul has a range of governance experience with over 30 years as a company director of various businesses including his own Import and Wholesale, Retail as well as leading his Master Plumbers association and other community organisations as well as serving as a director, National President and Deputy Chair of Master Plumbers Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc and Masterlink Ltd. He was also appointed as a director and chair of Queenstown Events Ltd and Lakes Leisure Ltd, companies owned by Queenstown Lakes District Council. He also held a position on the advisory board to the 4 Seasons Retail Group, a nation-wide retail chain.
